The House of the Vestals
Instead of reading these books in the order listed by Goodreads, I have decided to read them in the chronological order listed by the author on his website. Warning to people who want to do the chronological thing, don't. I feel I may have ruined some of the later books. That being said, every story I read about Gordianus makes me love him just a little more. Lestat has some serious competition for the title of favorite fictional male. I especially loved the role Bethesda played in The Disapperance of the Saturnalia Silver. I am looking forward to getting to the point where Bethesda and Gordianus start their own family. I look forward to seeing more from some of the characters introduced in these stories. I loved the addition of Lucius and the larger role played by Eco.
The only knock I have against the stories in this collection was the predictability. After the first couple of stories, I began to see patterns and was able to deduce how things were going to end. I don't mind a little predictability but I missed the big twist like the one at the end of [b:Roman Blood|102720|Roman Blood (Roma Sub Rosa, #1)|Steven Saylor|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388555429s/102720.jpg|2569207]. I am hopeful the mystery will become more complicated when I get back to Gordianus novels.
